US envoy meets new Thai PM
BANGKOK, August 15 (TNA) - Chairman of the US Senate’s Foreign Relations Subcommittee on East Asian and Pacific Affairs, Jim Webb, paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra at Government House on Monday.
During his visit, Webb conveyed congratulations to Yingluck on her premiership and expressed Washington’s wish to strengthen relations and cooperation with Bangkok. Webb noted that Thailand has made another step forward in its democratic process, and that the US was ready to work with the new government.
Asked if he was concerned about the current state of Thai politics, the US envoy said he believed political stability was restored to Thailand and that the country was now back on track towards democracy. (TNA)
