Hat Yai tourism on the rise due to Malaysia’s National Day late August
BANGKOK, August 14 (TNA) - Tourism is booming in Hat Yai district of Thailand’s Songkhla province due to the upcoming Malaysia’s National Day and the Hari Rayaa at the end of the month with over 10,000 local hotel rooms having already been reserved by tourists and over hundreds millions baht expected to change hand during that period.
Somchart Pimthanapoonporn, president of the Hat Yai Hotel Association and the Songkhla Tourism Council, said tourism continues to boom in Hat Yai district in 2011, noting that he expects more tourists and foreign visitors to arrive the district later in the month to celebrate Malaysia’s National Day on August 31 and the Hari Raya festival.
Somchart said with the boom in tourism, local public and private sectors have, therefore, joined forces to ensure that the highest standard of public safety are maintained in the province; a move which he admitted that has consequently further restored confidence among the travelers.
Nevertheless, Somchart called on the new government to immediately put in place flood preventive measures in Hat Yai, saying that flooding has remained a major factor that hinders growth of the province’s tourism sector. (TNA)
