31 Qatari Firms Report Net Profit Over 25% in H1

Doha, August 13 (QNA) - Thirty-one firms out of the 42 listed on Qatar Exchange reported growth in net profit of more than 25% during the first half of 2011.
The aggregate mid term net profit of these companies is QR 14,783,020,000 compared to QR 11,824,400,00 in the first half of 2010, an increase of QR 2,958,620,000.
The industrial sector's growth in the net profit was the highest at 46.51% followed by banks and financial institutions with 24.58%. The insurance sector reported 2.52 while services was 2.39%.
From the financial results announced by these companies, 27 out of the 31 noted growth in net profit this year compared to 2010 for the first half period ending June 30.
Four companies reported a drop - Gulf International Services Sector by 43.72%, Qatar Navigation Services Sector by 38.66%, Qatar National Cement Industrial Sector by 16.55% and Al Khaleej Takaful Insurance by 11.32%.
Gulf Warehousing Company and Al-Khaleeji Bank have separately scored a profit margin of up 309.46% and 122.32% respectively for the first half. Industries Qatar was up 63.11%, Qatar Oman Investment Company 60.38%, Qatar Electricity and Water Company 43.20. (QNA)

Giving Zakat Al-Fitr Via Qtel Begins

Doha, August 13 (QNA) - The Zakat Fund began operating a service for giving "Zakat Al-Fitr'' by means of the mobile phone in cooperation with Qatar Telecom (Qtel).
The service will enable Muslims to give Zakat Al-Fitr by sending a text message including the character (z) in English to the number (92 119)
Qtel will collect the rate of the message (QR15) - equivalent to the value of Zakat Al-Fitr - which will be added to the bill of the subscriber who intends to give it or to be deducted from the balance of his calls and will transfer it to the Zakat Fund which, in turn, will distribute it to the poor and the needy registered with the Fund.
Qtel will not deducted the cost of messages whatever be its numbers to promote the project.
The subscriber who intends to give the Zakat Fund will receive an instant message from the Fund confirming the discount amount and payment of Zakat al-Fitr
Qtel will inform the Fund on a daily basis about the messages it has received and the amounts collected and the Fund will immediately distribute them to beneficiaries in accordance with the advisory opinion of a number of scholars who gave a fatwa on the possibility of giving Zakat Al-Fitr as of the first day of Ramadan.
The Fund announced that the value of Zakat Al-Fitr this year will not see any change which will be the amount of fifteen Riyals per person.(QNA)
