New Thai PM to convey thanks to world leaders

SUKOTHAI, August 13 (TNA) - Newly-elected Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said on Saturday that she will convey a message of thanks to foreign leaders in return for their good wishes, after having assumed her office as Thailand’s 28th premier for almost one week.

Yingluck told reporters of the intention during her weekend visit to flood-affected areas in the Thai North and Northeast, acknowledging that, among the world leaders, US President Barack Obama had conveyed his congratulations to her on having secured a trust among the Thai public to become the Kingdom's new and first female prime minister in the July 3 general election.

Yingluck said that Obama has also expressed his confidence in closer relations between Washington and Bangkok, and that Thailand has been highly commended by the international community following the country’s smooth national poll.

The new Pheu Thai premier revealed that many countries have conveyed their good wishes; so, she would like to return a message of appreciation to them.

However, the female Thai premier declined the possibility of her immediate trips overseas, especially to Cambodia, saying that she will first consider the visits to the neighbouring countries in details. (TNA)
