Thai Red Cross calls for blood donors on Mother’s Day

BANGKOK, August 12 (TNA) - The Thai Red Cross Society has encouraged blood donors to come forward with contributions on the occasion of Mother’s Day, and in honour of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit’s 79th royal birthday anniversary.
The donation call was aimed at raising the society’s current blood supplies of some 1,500-1,600 units per day, which had been insufficient over past years due to an increasing number of accidents in the country and a growing number of cancer and thalassemia patients of some 600,000 nationwide.
Meanwhile, as Thai people celebrated Mother’s Day, the price for jasmine flowers across local markets had reportedly nearly doubled from 10 baht per garland to 15 baht, especially in Chanthaburi province. (TNA)
