New Thai PM to tackle narcotic issues under royal intention

BANGKOK, August 12 (TNA) - Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has vowed to reinforce the country’s work on narcotic suppression according to the royal intention of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, Yingluck said she would begin discussing anti-narcotic measures with her cabinet and concerned agencies. She promised to remedy all drug addicts with proper rehabilitation services, and to work towards the betterment of social conditions.
Asked if she would renew the so called “war on drugs” carried out by deposed prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra that led to extrajudicial killings, Yingluck said changes would certainly be made to previous suppression measures, however saying an in-depth investigation would also be held to nail major drug traffickers.
The premier meanwhile, denied acknowledgement of a report saying Police General Wichean Potephosree would resign as national police chief to pave way for the promotion of Police General Priewpan Damapong to his capacity. (TNA)
