Seoul shares up 1.04 pct in late-morning trade
SEOUL (Yonhap) - South Korean stocks traded 1.04 percent higher late Friday morning, helped by overnight gains in Wall Street and Europe, analysts said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) climbed 18.85 points to 1,836.29 as of 11:20 a.m., extending its winning streak to a third session.
Retail investors scooped up shares to lead the rally but institutions and foreigners remained net sellers.
Techs were mixed. The world's biggest chipmaker Samsung Electronics rose 0.28 percent but its smaller rival Hynix Semiconductor fell 4.12 percent on a recent drop in memory chip prices.
The local currency was changing hands at 1,077.9 won to the greenback as of 11:20 a.m., up 3.9 won from Thursday's close.
