Canoe-Kayak Championships held to Commemorate Pakistan Independence-Day
QUETTA, August 11, 2011 (PPI): All Balochistan Independence-day Canoe and Kayak Championship 2011 was successfully held as per rules and regulations of International Canoe Federation (ICF) under the auspicious of Pakistan Canoe and Kayak Federation (PCKF) organised by HDWSA (Hayat Durrani Water Sports Academy Hanna Lake Quetta) and the Balochistan Canoeing and kayaking Association to celebrate the Independence-day of Pakistan 14th August 2011 in advance with effect from 27th to 30 July 2011 as the 14th August Pakistan (Independence-day) was falling in the holy month of Ramadan.
More than 45 boys and girls Kayak Paddlers participated in the Competition. It was amazing when 17 kayak paddlers from different countries studying officer’s of allied forces in Staff College Quetta Cantonment took part the Championship as guests but win no medal.
In this event, HDWSA took 1st Place followed by Pakistan Customs Quetta 2nd Place and Quetta City Canoe Club 3rd Place.
The Secretary General of PCKF, Hayatullah Khan Durrani said on the eve of Prize distribution “We have very good canoe kayak paddlers and the level of our youth kayak paddlers are increasing day by day because we have a project for youth canoeists. Pakistan Canoe and Kayak Federation provides training facilities for its grassroots programme, therefore the juniors kayak paddlers of HDWSA Balochistan are the best in Pakistan.” Mr. Durrani hoped that in future ICF will assist this youth kayak paddler’s project. The girl’s participation in the Championships was also highly commended; it was pointed out that the Federation has many female members and they have taken a keen interest in kayaking sports.
He said, “The position of the Federation now is to make available its best facilities to the girls so that they can be coached properly.” The sport is evidently proving popular because the girls have a good level of kayaking skills and it is deemed to be a suitable and attractive sport for girls in Pakistan. In the prize final and prize distribution ceremonies Mr. Durrani describes the promotion and the development of Canoe and Kayak sports in Pakistan.
He also took this opportunity to inform the chief guest Engr: Zamrak Khan Achakzai Provincial minister and guest of honour Mr. Sarwar Javed (Member Board of revenue) and other respectable guest about the ICF’s assistance for development of Canoe and Kayak sports in Pakistan, It was also deliberated that the President of the Iran Canoe Federation and the Asian Canoe Confederation would in the near future confirm Pakistan’s team participation in the upcoming Asian Championships in Tehran.
