KRC: Thailand's domestic travelling during National Mothers' Day holiday grows nearly 10%

BANGKOK, August 11 (TNA) - The KASIKORN Research Centre (KRC) has reported that domestic travelling during this year's National Mothers' Day holiday will likely grow by nearly 10 per cent year-on-year.

KRC has projected that the number of local people travelling to tourism attractions throughout the country during the National Mothers' Day 2011 holiday this weekend will reach some 1.6 million, earning the country's tourism-related revenues about 6.5 billion baht, or some 8 per cent year-on-year increase.

The leading Thai private think tank has noted that the number of local people travelling in the country this month will likely reach nearly nine million, or some 7 per cent year-on-year expansion, earning the Kingdom's tourism-related revenues about 35 billion baht or some 9 per cent year-on-year growth.

According to the Bangkok-based research house, domestic travelling by local people has kept expanding in the second half of this year, thanks to the country's more stable political situation in the wake of the new general election on July 3, as well as world oil and product price hikes--which have discouraged outbound travelling among Thai people.

KRC has assessed that domestic travelling among local people throughout this year will likely expand by 4 per cent year-on-year, with the number of the Thai travellers reaching 105.4 million, earning the country's tourism-related revenues up to 415 billion baht, about 3 per cent year-on-year increase.
