Thai military, police to work together with new government

BANGKOK, August 11 (TNA) - The Thai military and police have insisted that both sides will work together with and follow the new Pheu Thai Party-led government's policies.

Thai Armed Forces Chief General Songkitti Jakkabatr affirmed on Thursday that the Royal Thai Armed Forces will continue to work with the new Thai government and to follow the new administration's policies, through the defence portfolio and newly-appointed Defence Minister General Yuthasak Sasiprapha's instructions.

Regarding the military's new procurement plans, General Songkitti acknowledged that the Royal Thai Armed Forces will proceed with them through official procedures systematically.

The retiring supreme commander also insisted that the Royal Thai Armed Forces will carry on its annual military reshuffle as usual despite the change in the Thai administration, saying this year's military reshuffle to be publicly announced by next month, before his retirement on September 30.

National Police Chief Police General Wichien Potephosri, on the other hand, told reporters after leading police representatives to congratulate Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra at her Pheu Thai Party's headquarters that the Royal Thai Police is also ready to fully follow the new government's policies and instructions.
