ANKARA (A.A) - 18.09.2008 - Turkish Justice Minister & Turkey-Indonesia Joint Economic Committee (JEC) Co-Chairman Mehmet Ali Sahin said on Thursday that they targeted to increase the trade volume between the two countries to five billion USD within the next three years.
The 7th term JEC protocol between Turkey and Indonesia was signed by Sahin and Indonesian Minister of Trade Mari Elka Pangestu in Ankara.
Sahin said that the trade volume between the two countries, which was 1.1 billion USD in 2006, rose 37 percent to 1.5 billion USD in 2007. He added that the trade volume rose 28 percent to one billion USD in January-July period in 2008.
Sahin said that import rate from Indonesia to Turkey, which was 750 million USD in 2005, increased to 1.3 billion USD in 2007; and it was expected to be 1.6 billion USD by the end of 2008. He added that export rate, which was 85 million USD in 2006, rose to 174 million USD in 2007; and it was expected to be 350-400 million USD by the end of 2008.
Sahin said that the 8th term JEC meeting was planned to take place in Jakarta in 2010.
Sahin said that Turkey and Indonesia could cooperate in food, ship construction, automobile, textile and textile machine sectors, and they could increase joint investments in those areas.
Also Indonesian minister expressed pleasure over the developing relations between Turkey and Indonesia; and she said that Indonesian people did not forget the assistance of Turkish Red Crescent after tsunami disaster.
Pangestu said that Indonesia considered Turkey as a door to Europe and Middle East, adding that Indonesia also was a door to Asia Pacific countries for Turkey.
