Cambodia calls for JBC meeting with Thailand
BANGKOK, August 11 (TNA) - Cambodian Defence Minister General Tea Banh on Thursday invited Thai Defence Minister General Yutthasak Sasiprapa on an official visit to Cambodia, saying the Thailand-Cambodia Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) meeting should be held this month.
Gen Yutthasak told reporters before the cabinet meeting on Thursday of the invitation, saying he agreed with Gen Tea Banh’s proposal for Thailand to hold the JBC meeting immediately after the government announced its policy statement.
He said in the meantime, Thailand had proposed to hold the Thai-Cambodian Regional Border Committee (RBC) meeting in Nakhon Ratchasima province, in order to pave a way for further discussions in the JBC meeting, on which the Cambodian side had already voiced support.
Asked whether there would be a reshuffle in the Thai JBC delegation, Gen Yutthasak declined to verify, saying he had to wait until the venue for the next JBC meeting was confirmed, noting for the interim the current delegation would attend the gathering.
The minister added that if the meeting took place in Phnom Penh, he would seek an opportunity to personally have an audience with the Cambodian King, along with Prime Minister Somdet Hun Sen and Defence Minister Tea Banh. (TNA)
