RI, AUSTRALIA TO HOLD MORE TALKS ON MARITIME SECURITY
Jakarta, Sept 17 (ANTARA) - Indonesia and Australia will soon hold another talks on maritime cooperation aimed at forging the existing close defense ties between the two neighboring states.
Indonesian Defense Minister Juwono Sudarsono said on Wednesday the talks on maritime cooperation would be high on the agenda of his meeting with his Australian counterpart, Joel Fitzgibbon, here on Thursday.
During the meeting, the two defense ministers will also discuss cooperation in exchange of armed force officers' and experts' visits as part of efforts to set up a National Defense University.
"Apart from that, we will also discuss cooperation on emergency respone in handling natural disasters," Juwono said.
On November 13, 2003, Indonesia and Australia signed a landmark security treaty on the Indonesian island of Lombok.
The agreement deals with defense cooperation, law enforcement, war on terrorism, intelligence cooperation, maritime security, flight safety and security, and emergency response, among others.
