Gold prices in Thailand hit new high

BANGKOK, August 11 (TNA) - Gold prices on the domestic market hit a new high on Thursday due to a surge in public demand for the "safe haven asset" in line with the global trend, amid worldwide worries over the spreading financial crisis in the United States and Europe.

Thailand's Gold Traders Association reported that the domestic prices of gold bars and gold ornaments soared to 25,250 baht and 25,650 baht per baht-weight respectively on Thursday, a new high after reaching 25,150 baht per baht-weight for gold ornaments on August 9.

Meanwhile, Bangkok-based Hua Seng Heng Gold Futures Co. Ltd. said that the world gold price climbed up to 1,810 US dollars per ounce Thursday morning, a new high after it closed at 1,795 US dollars per ounce on Wednesday, and that the world gold price is likely to further hike to 1,810-1,820 US dollars per ounce shortly.
