Opposition prepared to scrutinize new Thai government

BANGKOK, August 10 (TNA) - Thailand's now main opposition Democrat Party announced this morning that it is beginning to scrutinize the new Pheu Thai Party-led coalition government, immediately after the official appointment of the new Thai Cabinet in a royal command endorsed by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

Chief of the opposition whip Jurin Laksanawisit told reporters that his opposition camp plans to "counter-check" the new Pheu Thai Party-led six-party coalition government in three areas, including performances and qualifications of each Cabinet member, as well as the new administration's overall policies and performances.

Jurin, who is former public health and education ministers in the previous Democrat Party-led coalition government, acknowledged that it is too early to assess the new Thai government, including how long the new administration will remain in office.

The former Democrat minister said, however, that the new Thai government's economic team appears to be the best, given relevant circumstances; while those others need to prove themselves. (TNA)
