Eight ambassadors congratulate new Thai Prime Minister
BANGKOK, August 9 (TNA) - Ambassadors from eight countries on Tuesday visited Yingluck Shinawatra to congratulate her on assuming office as Thai Prime Minister.
At the meeting, Cambodian Ambassador to Thailand You Aye conveyed congratulations from Prime Minister Hun Sen and Foreign Minister Hor Namhong to Ms Yingluck, and underscored the need for Thailand and Cambodia to separate political and economic issues despite the recent Preah Vihear temple issue.
Ms Yingluck agreed on the gesture of goodwill, and said both countries should negotiate under the ASEAN framework to promote bilateral ties, and to prepare for an ASEAN Economic Community in the next four years.
Indonesian Ambassador to Thailand Mohammad Hatta also conveyed congratulations from the Indonesian president, and said Indonesia was ready to enhance Thai-Indonesian diplomatic relations, which entered its 60th anniversary last year.
Ambassador Hatta also said Indonesia would be hosting an ASEAN Summit in Bali on November 17-19, this year, and would officially invite Ms Yingluck to meet its president on the occasion.
In response, Yingluck thanked Indonesia for its support to Thailand in solving problems in the three southern border provinces. She also vowed to cooperate with Indonesia more closely in the future.
Also presiding over the meeting were ambassadors from Latin America namely Argentine Ambassador Ana Maria, Brazilian Ambassador Paulo Cesar, Peruvian Ambassador George Castaneda, Mexican ambassador Arturo Puente, Chilean charge d’affaires Gabriel Maldonado and Chilean charge d’affaires Marianela de Lion Vasquez.
