SHOs of two police stations suspended due to attack on Mashriq

Peshawar, August 08, 2011 (PPI): The two SHOs involved in the unlawful and merciless raid on the head office of the Mashriq Group of Newspapers have been suspended while others cops who took part in the action have been detained by law enforcement agencies.

Senior journalist Shamim Shahid disclosed this on Monday while speaking at a condemnation session of the Khyber Union of Journalists with regard to illegal police action on offices of leading regional newspaper group.

The development came two days after the unfortunate incident which left five staffers of the group injured.

He said SSP operations Ijaz informed him that a police probe committee headed by ASP, Gulbahar, Faisal has been set up to investigate the incident while the SHO Abidur Rehman of Hashtnagri police station and Asif Sharif of Faqirabad police station, have been suspended till probe is completed.

It may be mentioned here that a heavy contingent of police led by SHOs Asif Sharif and Abidur Rehman barged into premises of the Mashriq Group of Newspapers on Saturday evening and whisked away to guards before beating them and three other staffers without any authorisation.
