No laxity to be tolerated in preventive measures against Dengue: Secy Health
LAHORE, August 08, 2011 (PPI): Secretary Health Punjab Mohammad Jehanzeb Khan has said that no laxity would be tolerated in taking preventive measures against dengue in Lahore. He directed EDO Health that a senior officer immediately be nominated as focal person to supervise anti-mosquito spray, fogging and other preventive steps in every town and EDO Health personally monitor all the activities.
He was presiding over a meeting to review the performance of Health Department District Lahore in his office, here Monday.
Besides, Addl. Secretaries, Director General Health Punjab Dr. Aslam Chaudhry, EDO Health Lahore Dr. Umer Farooq Baloch and other concerned officers attended the meeting.
Secretary Health said that Lahore is the main focus for dengue as the previous year, majority of dengue cases were reported in Lahore, therefore, foolproof preventive arrangements is the prime responsibility of EDO Health and his team. He further said that provincial government is providing all resources for this purpose and now it is the duty of those who are working at operational level to execute their responsibilities dedicatedly. For this purpose, District Coordination Committee should also be made vibrant, he added.
While expressing his reservations on the low turnout of the patients in DHQ, THQ hospitals and Rural Health Centres, Secretary Health said that despite all free facilities provided by the government the low turnout of the patients and the low rate of delivery in government facilities is a matter of concern. He warned that he is giving a chance to the officers to improve their performance otherwise strict action will be taken against them. He directed that the presence of doctors and other staff of the hospital and RHCs, BHUs must be ensured.
He directed that doctors should show courteous behaviour to the patients. Jehanzeb Khan directed that EDO Health should also ensure public safety in district level hospitals. He reiterated that promotion of public health is the basic duty of every health manager at district level.
