Govt braces for more cruel cattle footage

SYDNEY (AAP) - The federal government is bracing itself for the possible release of more damaging footage showing Australian animals being slaughtered inhumanely.
Agriculture Minister Joe Ludwig has been told that Animals Australia has new video footage of animals being killed in an overseas market.
The animal welfare group sparked the debate about live cattle exports when it released graphic footage of inhumane slaughter in Indonesian abattoirs.
The subsequent outcry prompted a suspension of exports to Indonesia for a month and a pledge to clean up slaughter practices.
Senator Ludwig said on Tuesday he'd requested the footage as a matter of urgency, but he stressed a review of Australia's live export trade was already under way.
It is due by the end of the month.
"This review will help inform a new regulatory framework for Australia's live export trade," he said in a statement.
Comment was being sought from Animals Australia.
