Gold prices in Thailand hit new high

BANGKOK, August 9 (TNA) - Gold prices on the domestic market have kept soaring to hit a new high on Tuesday, in line with global gold markets amid financial crisis in the US and European power economies.

Jitti Tangsitphakdi, President of Thailand's Gold Traders Association, said that domestic gold prices continued springing up in eight steps by some 900 baht per baht-weight totally, to 25,050 baht and 25,450 baht per baht-weight for gold bars and gold ornaments respectively.

Jitti acknowledged that the soaring gold prices on the domestic market followed a surge in gold prices on the world market, with those traded in Hong Kong recorded up to 1,740-1760 US dollars per ounce on Tuesday morning.

Meanwhile, Dr. Kritcharat Hiranyasiri, a Gold Traders Association member, warned local investors to beware of the fluctuation gold prices, suggesting only those who can hold gold for their long-term investment to participate in the volatile market currently. (TNA)
