Thai people safe from London riots

BANGKOK, August 9 (TNA) - Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed Thai residents have not been affected from riots in London which have spread to several other British cities.

On Tuesday, Director General of the Ministry’s Information Department Thani Thongpakdi quoted the Thai embassy in London as saying the riots were contained in northern London, and no Thai casualties were reported so far.

Thani also quoted the embassy urging all Thai residents in the UK to stay abreast for the latest news.

Furthermore, he said the Thai Foreign Ministry had not issued a travel advisory warning for the UK, but advised family members of the Thai residents seeking further information to dial the Thai embassy hotline number at +4479 1865 1720 and +4420 7589 2944.

Riots first erupted in London’s Tottenham on Saturday night after a man was shot dead by police during his arrest. By Tuesday, the stretch of violence reportedly broke out in other nearby cities, including Birmingham and Liverpool. (TNA)
