Somali PM Lauds Qatar's Relief Efforts

Doha, August 08 (QNA) - Somali Prime Minister Dr. Abdi Wali Mohammed Ali has highly appreciated the relief efforts and humanitarian aid provided by the State of Qatar to help alleviate famine, drought, and suffering in the Horn of Africa.
During his meeting with a delegation from Qatar Charity, Dr. Mohammed Ali has welcomed humanitarian relief efforts by the organization, which succeeded so far to deliver aid to remote areas, especially theses under the control of the Mujahedeen Youth Movement (MYM).
Qatar Charity delegation has recently concluded a field visit to Bad Badu camp for Internally Displaced People in Mogadishu, which is home to nearly 30000 people.
It has also supervised the distribution of the first batch of emergency food aid for 2100 displaced people escaping from drought and famine in their home areas to "Wertigli" camp in the south of the capital Mogadishu.
The organization provides relief in 7 camps in and around the capital; including one in the Ovkoa, 40 kilometers of Mogadishu, said Ali Mubarak Al Kubaisi, head of Qatar Charity 'Donors Relation Section'.
The presence of a permanent field office in Mogadishu; including a disaster relief and emergency assistance unity, with a permanent staff as well as more than 400 of volunteers from students and graduates of Mogadishu University sponsored by Qatar Charity are the key elements that have enabled Qatar to be one of the earliest countries in the world to urgently come to the aid of Somalia, Al Kubaisi explained.
Qatar Charity will distribute next Thursday some 12 tonnes of foodstuff for more about 2500 displaced families in Lower Shabelle province, the area the United Nations declared the worst hit by famine, said Al Kubaisi.
By middle of August, Qatar Charity will implement a plan for safe delivery of food aid to Baidoa, 256 kilometers northwest of the capital Mogadishu, he concluded. (QNA)
