Thai private sector: economic problems should be solved first

BANGKOK, August 8 (TNA) - Chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce Dusit Nontanakorn says the incoming Thai government should first work on solving the people’s problem that concerned volatile prices of goods.

Dusit made the remarks on Monday as Thailand continued to endure a nail-biting moment before the new cabinet line-up.

In his statement, Dusit also urged the Thai government and the private sector to closely monitor the U.S. market, especially in terms of import demand, in view of U.S. economic problems and the recent downgrading of the U.S. credit rating.

On the other hand, he said, Thailand should work on enhancing trade relations with other Southeast Asian nations, in order to benefit from the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) in 2015.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) Payungsak Chartsutipol advised the new administration to form a capable economic team to solve the country’s urgent problems, saying it should have a clear direction within a year.

He added that the government should closely monitor impacts on foreign exchange rates and the value of the U.S. dollar in relation to the U.S. economy. (TNA)
