Asylum seekers treated for dehydration
SYDNEY (AAP) - Three asylum seekers on Christmas Island who were scheduled to be deported to Malaysia have been treated for dehydration after refusing meals.
A Department of Immigration spokeswoman said an ambulance attended the Phosphate Hill detention centre at Christmas Island on Monday morning, where the asylum seekers subject to the Malaysia deal are being held.
The asylum seekers were treated for dehydration on site by the detention centre's medical service after they refused meals, she said.
The spokeswoman said a small number of detainees have not accepted meals but it was not clear whether it was out of protest or that some were observing Ramadan.
