Rising problems, illnesses among Thailand's flood victims

BANGKOK, August 8 (TNA) - The Thai Ministry of Public Health reported on Monday that the country's flood victims are facing more troubles and illnesses, as some 100 teams of medical staff have already been dispatched to assist them.
Thai Permanent Secretary for Public Health Paijit Warachit said that the current floods have killed 23 people, with one missing, over the past week and there have been some 12,000 patients in 16 flood-stricken provinces in the Thai North and Northeast, more than half of them have suffered from athlete's foot, followed by cold, rashes, muscle pains and wounds.
Dr. Paijit acknowledged that, among the flood victims, 67 of them were found to be depressed and 33 others to be stressful, with 16 of them being at risk of committing suicide, prompting his ministry to have also sent teams of psychiatrists and local public health volunteers to closely liaise with their families to take good care of them.
The top Thai health official said that some 35,000 medication kits, apart from medical personnel, have been dispatched to the flood victims as well, noting, however, that all flood-hit hospitals have now resumed their medical services as usual. (TNA)
