Thailand to cut retail gasoline price
BANGKOK, August 8 (TNA) - The retail gasoline price across Thailand will be reduced by 30 satang per liter as of Tuesday in line with the plunge in global oil price.
Anusorn Sangnimnuan, president of Bangchak Petroleum Public Company Limited, said on Monday that as the global oil price plunged, the marketing margin stood at 2.60 baht a liter on average. He insisted unless the global oil price recovered, the retail price would further decline.
Regarding the diesel price, Anusorn said the Energy Policy and Planning Committee would soon convene to decide on raising the contribution from the diesel retail price to the State Oil Fund, which stood at 1.90 baht per liter currently.
He added that the in-coming Thai energy minister should prioritize on adjusting the overall structure of energy prices, saying that the prices of liquefied petroleum gas, natural gas and diesel must reflect their real costs.
Meanwhile, the Bangchak president urged for the promotion of alternative energy to meet the country’s goal of raising the proportion of alternative energy, including ethanol, to 20 percent in 15 years.
He also called on the new government to establish good governance and transparency, especially when dealing with local petroleum concessions and international agreements, including those with Cambodia which, he said, had drawn special attention from the public. (TNA)
