South Korea hosts photo exhibit on poverty
SEOUL, Sept. 17 (Yonhap) -- An exhibition of photos showing poverty from diverse angles opened in Seoul on Wednesday, hosted by South Korea's foreign ministry.
Titled "Blight and Hope: Poverty Seen Through the Lens," the exhibition will be
open until Sept. 28 at Sookmyung Women's University.
Works by 16 professional photographers from seven countries, including South
Korea, are on display. Organizers say they hope the exhibit will sharpen viewers'
sense of the issue and widen their perspectives of poverty.
"The exhibition successfully marries global issues and art, and is of
significance for both artists and all those who are active in the campaign to
eradicate poverty and to reach the United Nations Millennium Development Goals,"
Foreign Minister Yu Myung-hwan said in a statement.
After Seoul, the exhibition will move to the Korean Cultural Center in London,
where the photos will be on display from Oct. 21 through Nov. 4. The exhibit is
scheduled to go on display in other countries as well, including Vietnam, the
ministry said.
