Missing Vic teen found on mountain
SYDNEY (AAP) - Aug. 07 - A 13-year-old girl scout has been rescued after spending 30 hours missing in freezing conditions in a Victorian national park.
Morwell girl Ashley Kerstjens wandered away from a scout camp at Mount Erica, in Baw Baw National Park in Victoria's east, about 10am (AEST) on Saturday.
She was spotted by the police airwing about 4.20pm on Sunday.
She was able to wave to the helicopter crew from her position on the other side of the Mount Erica summit, police said.
Police have winched her to safety.
She was expected to be taken to the Latrobe Regional Hospital to be assessed by doctors.
The search began about 4pm on Saturday and continued through the night, concentrating on an area known as Mushroom Rocks.
Temperatures in the area stayed below zero all night.
Ashley was with a group of scouts who were camping in a hut near Mushroom Rocks and wandered off from the hut. She'd been on a similar scout camp two years ago.
Local police, police search-and-rescue officers plus State Emergency Service and Bush Search and Rescue volunteers were involved in the search.
