Organizers to run free shuttles during world championships

DAEGU (Yonhap) - Organizers of the upcoming World Championships in Athletics said Sunday they will offer free shuttle services to the main stadium for visitors during the eight-day event.
Organizers said free shuttle buses will run in the metropolitan city, just over 300 kilometers southeast of Seoul, during the Aug. 27-Sept. 4 event from five locations: Gosan and Sinmae stations on subway line No. 2; East Daegu Station for the high-speed KTX line; Beommul-dong Garage; and Yulha Station on subway line No. 1.
The buses will travel to Daegu Stadium starting at 7:30 a.m. and will be available every three to 10 minutes. The last buses will leave two hours after all events of the day are finished.
In addition, Daegu city officials said regular city buses and subway trains will extend their services during the championships.
"Some roads will be closed to traffic around Daegu Stadium, and we expect to see some heavy parking lot congestion," a Daegu official said. "We hope visitors will use public transit since it will be more convenient than driving their own vehicles. Free shuttles will provide easy access to the stadium."
This year's World Championships is expected to bring together nearly 2,500 athletes from at least 207 countries, making it the largest ever in the event's history.
