Thailand's exports of industrial goods up 19% in first half

BANGKOK, August 6 (TNA) - The Thai Ministry of Industry's Office of Industrial Economics (OIE) says that the country's exports of industrial goods reached 85.09 billion US dollars during the first half of this year, a 19 per cent year-on-year increase.

OIE Director General Suttinee Poopaka acknowledged that Thai exports of industrial products have kept expanding despite impacts from devastating natural disaster in Japan in March and the ongoing debt crisis in Europe and the United States.

Suttinee revealed that Thailand's exports of plastic pellets alone surged by 55.73 per cent year-on-year during the January-June 2011 period, worth 4.47 billion US dollars; while the country's exports of electrical appliances, as well as textile and garment products soared by 21 per cent and 24.4 per cent year-on-year, worth 11.59 billion US dollars and 4.24 billion US dollars, respectively.

According to the OIE chief, Thailand's exports of locally-produced automobiles and parts reached 8.74 billion US dollars during the first half of this year, up 2.3 per cent from the corresponding period of last year. (TNA)
