Thai baht likely to hover around Bt29.80-30.20/US dollar next week
BANGKOK, August 6 (TNA) - The KASIKORN Research Centre (KRC) said on Saturday that the Thai baht is likely to hover around 29.80-30.20 baht against the US dollar next week, from 29.84 baht against the US dollar when it closed on Friday’s domestic foreign exchange market.
The leading Thai private think tank reported that the Thai currency, like other currencies in the region, had been volatile over the past week due to worries over the ongoing debt crisis in the United States and Europe and the fragile world economy.
Meanwhile, Bank of Thailand (BOT) Governor Prasarn Trairatvorakul acknowledged that the Thai central bank has intervened in the country's foreign exchange market to reduce the baht's volatility.
The BOT chief said that the Thai central bank has kept a close watch on movements of the Thai currency and has prepared a range of measures to deal with the changing situation. (TNA)
