People in Thai North and Northeast warned of more downpours

BANGKOK, August 6 (TNA) - The Meteorological Department issued a new statement on Saturday, warning people in the Thai North and Northeast to brace for more downpours over the next couple of days, as the death toll from the current floods in the two regions have risen to 13 so far.

The Thai weather agency said that some areas in the Thai North and Northeast will face heavy downpours, influenced by a prevailing seasonal southwest monsoon in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand and a low pressure mass in the Gulf of Tonkin.

Meanwhile, the Thai Ministry of Interior's Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation reported that the flood-related death toll in the Thai North and Northeast has risen to 13; while 11 others have been injured and one has remained missing.

According to the official report, at least 14 provinces in Thailand's northern and northeastern regions have been flooded. Latest reports said that low-lying areas in the country's lower northern provinces, particularly those in Pichit, have now been inundated by floodwater from upstream provinces, namely Sukhothai and Pitsanulok, affecting hundreds of households and a number of local farmlands.
