HM King to endorse newly-elected Thai premier on Aug 8

BANGKOK, August 6 (TNA) - Secretary General to the Thai House of Representatives Pithoon Pumhiran told reporters on Saturday that His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej will endorse the election of Yingluck Shinawatra, the Pheu Thai Party's top list MP, as Thailand's 28th and first female prime minister next Monday.
Pithoon said that the Secretariat of the Thai House of Representatives has already been informed by the Bureau of the Royal Household that His Majesty the King will grant an audience to Thai House Speaker Somsak Kiartsuranont, who is also the country's Parliament President, at 5:30pm on August 8 at Bangkok's Siriraj Hospital, where the revered Thai monarch has been recuperating.
Pithoon revealed that the Bureau of the Royal Household said in the letter sent to the Secretariat of the Thai House that His Majesty the King will endorse a royal command officially appointing Yingluck as the Kingdom's new prime minister when the Thai House Speaker is granted the audience with the beloved Thai monarch.
Yingluck, the youngest sister of exiled ex-Thai premier Thaksin Shinawatra, was elected Thailand's first female prime minister by the majority vote of the country's 500-seat House of Representatives on Friday. The 44-year-old leading Thai businesswoman-turned politician gained support from 296 MPs, reflecting the majority vote enjoyed by her Pheu Thai Party. (TNA)
