Thai military is ready to follow new government's policies: Army chief

BANGKOK, August 4 (TNA) - Army Chief General Prayuth Chan-o-cha announced on Thursday that the Thai military is ready to follow the incoming government's policies and decisions.
General Prayuth insisted that, being state officers, all Royal Thai Armed Forces personnel are to follow administrative policies without any condition or bargaining.
General Prayuth also said, as the country's July 3 general election has already gone smoothly and the Election Commission (EC) has endorsed all MPs in the 500-seat Thai House of Representatives, all Thai politicians, including the country's would-be first female prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra, are now welcome to have a meeting with him to discuss issues concerning who should be the new Thai defence minister if the incoming Pheu Thai Party-led government's leaders would like to give an honour to the Thai military before the new Cabinet line-up is finalised.
The army commander-in-chief suggested, however, that the new Thai defence minister should be knowledgeable, competent and well-experienced with far-sighted vision who is able to create a sound working atmosphere between the administration and the Royal Thai Armed Forces in a transparent, effective and honourable manners and to be able to promote national reconciliation, as the international security situation has kept changing with multi-dimensions.
The Thai army chief totally denied media reports that he had discussed with exiled ex-Thai premier Thaksin Shinawatra, Yingluck's elder brother, via Skype online calls on the new defence portfolio.
The Thai army chief voiced his support for the country's first female prime minister to-be, saying that several other countries also have top leaders who are women, and that Yingluck should be first given an opportunity to work for the public and the nation. (TNA)
