Blizzards on the way for Victorians
SYDNEY (AAP) - The record warm days for August in Melbourne have got skiers nervous that there may be an early end to the season but they can rest easy - blizzard conditions are expected for the weekend.
Four days of snowfalls are forecast to sweep over Victoria's ski resorts with sub zero temperatures and the return of very wintry conditions from Saturday to next Tuesday to top up what's been one of the best seasons in years.
Falls Creek spokeswoman Debbie Howie says plummeting temperatures will once again turn the resort into a winter wonderland.
"The current conditions have been a boon for skiers and boarders revelling in the sunny conditions but it will be good to get some more snow," Ms Howie said.
"This snow storm will be a welcome return to winter as we look forward to fresh new snow to whoop it up on the slopes."
In a further attempt to lure skiers and boarders up to the alps, the resort is offering deals on lift tickets including a three-day mid-week special of $248, a saving of around $100.
"The 2011 season has been one of the best in 10 years, with good early snowfalls, sunny days between the snowstorms and a good base to open all terrain and all lifts earlier than normal," said Ms Howie.
