Thai parliament to elect new prime minister

BANGKOK, August 3 (TNA) - Thailand's House of Representatives will convene on Friday to elect the country's new prime minister.

House secretary-general Pithoon Phumhirun confirmed on Wednesday the new House Speaker Somsak Kiatsuranont had called for Friday’s sitting at 9.30 a.m. (local time).

Meanwhile, Pheu Thai Party top list MP Yingluck Shinawatra revealed she would be receiving a royal appointment for her premiership at her party headquarters.

In response to complaints over cabinet portfolio quotas, Yingluck said she would do her best for the cabinet formation, stressing that all MPs should remain calm and that she never forgot those who fought together with the party through thick and thin.

Would-be prime minister Yingluck also sent her best wishes to Abhisit Vejjajiva, the outgoing leader, on the occasion of his 47th birthday anniversary on Wednesday.

In another development, officials from the Secretariat of the Prime Minister arrived at Pheu Thai Party headquarters in Bangkok to prepare for a ceremony in which Yingluck would receive the royal endorsement of her premiership. (TNA)
