Turkish frigate open to visitors in Shanghai

SHANGHAI (A.A) - August 3, 2011 - A Turkish frigate that docked at a Shanghai port earlier this week to mark the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations with China was opened to Chinese visitors on Wednesday.
Turkish frigate TCG Gemlik, one of the vessels within the Turkish naval fleet on a mission under a UN anti-piracy task force in the Gulf of Aden, drew great interest from Chinese people. 
Turkish Ambassador to China Murat Salim Esenli and Shanghai Consul-General Deniz Eke were among the visitors of the frigate. 
TCG Gemlik was the first Turkish vessel making a port visit to China in last 11 years, Ambassador Esenli said. 
He added that the visit of the vessel was an important sign of the level of Turkish-Chinese relations.
The Turkish frigate will be available for public visit for four days before setting sail for Japan.
