Royal crematorium for late Thai princess proposed at Bt218 million
BANGKOK, August 3 (TNA) - Thailand’s Ministry of Culture will propose a state budget of 218 million baht to finance construction of a royal crematorium for the late princess, Her Royal Highness Princess Bejaratana.
Outgoing Culture Minister Niphit Intharasombat told reporters of the plan on Wednesday, saying a blueprint of the royal crematorium by the Fine Arts Department will be forwarded to the royal cremation committee meeting on Thursday.
The royal crematorium, which is a complex of pavilions constructed on ground, is said to house new traditional Thai designs, but will resemble mostly to that previously offered to the late princess, Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Vadhana, the elder sister of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej. The design work will be made by renowned Thai National Artist Air Vice Marshal Awut Ngenchooklin, who is former director-general of the Fine Arts Department.
Minister Niphit noted at this stage, the royal crematorium will take a month to design, and a further 8-10 month period for construction, possibly finishing by March 2012. (TNA)
