Thailand records more flu patients during the monsoon

BANGKOK, August 2 (TNA) - Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health is deploying officials to help flood victims in the country’s north and northeast as more flu patients are recorded this monsoon.

On Tuesday, Permanent Secretary to the Ministry Dr Paijit Warachit said a public health notice had been issued advising the local people to consider hygienic practices, especially when making contact with water to avoid water-borne diseases, namely leptospirosis.

Dr Paijit noted that so far mobile health units had distributed 49,000 kits of household medicine to those affected, most of which suffered from water-borne diseases, including a variety of skin infections, athlete’s foot, and diarrhea.

Meanwhile, Dr Pasakorn Akarasevi, director of the Department of Disease Control’s Bureau of Epidemiology, acknowledged that the number of flu patients in the country was increasing, with more cases recorded among students in Bangkok and its metropolitan region.

He advised students feeling unwell to stay home with masks, and for the elderly to take appropriate medication. (TNA)
