“Nock-Ten” troubles Thai North and Northeast

BANGKOK, August 2 (TNA) - Although the Nock-Ten tropical storm has been downgraded to a depression, its impact is still widespread in Thailand’s North and Northeast.

In Lamphun province, five localities in Ma Tha district were submerged by one-meter deep floodwater triggered by overflowing river banks. Over 200 families were so far evacuated, despite some still reportedly stranded at home.

Flooding also hit Pa Sang district, affecting over 150 households and damaging local roads. Evacuation of residents in Mae Tha, Pa Sang and Muang districts were still ongoing.

In Chiang Mai province, heavy rains caused the Ping River to overflow, flooding low-lying communities in the city center, with some areas recording almost one-meter deep floodwater. Flooding also extended to over ten districts, including San Kamhaeng and San Sai districts.

In Nakhon Phanom province, over 1,000 families in Ban Phaeng district suffered the second wave of flashfloods from by overnight showers in the Phu Langka National Park. Floodwater was measured at 30-50 centimeters deep there. (TNA)
