New Thai Parliament President optimistic over national reconciliation
BANGKOK, August 2 (TNA) - New Thai Parliament President Somsak Kiartsuranont has expressed his optimism over national reconciliation, citing his election to Thailand's parliamentary top post with no other nominations to contest on Tuesday as a good sign.
The newly-elected Thai Parliament President, who is also the country's new House Speaker, told reporters that he will reveal his working policies in details after his election is officially endorsed by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej in a royal command.
The new Thai House Speaker, who is the elected MP of the majority-elected Pheu Thai Party for the northeastern Khon Kaen Province said, however, that he intends, among other tasks, to solve a main problem of lacks of quorum in Thai House sessions.
The first half-an-hour convention of Thailand's House of Representatives on Tuesday morning, after the new Thai Parliament session was inaugurated by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn in a state ceremony on Monday in the wake of the July 3 new general election, also voted Charoen Chankomol, the Pheu Thai MP for the northeastern Chaiyaphum Province, and Visuth Chainarun, the Pheu Thai MP for the northern Phayao Province, the First and the Second Deputy House Speakers respectively with no other nominations to contest.
Meanwhile, Pheu Thai top list MP and Thailand's would-be first female prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra personally congratulated the newly-elected Thai House Speaker and his two deputies after the closure of the first House convention. (TNA)
