Thai House gets new speaker, deputies

BANGKOK, August 2 (TNA) - Thailand’s House of Representatives on Tuesday elected Somsak Kiatsuranont as the new house speaker, with Charoen Jankomol and Wisuth Chainarun chosen as deputies.
The announcement was made during the new House session at 9.30 a.m. local time, chaired by former house speaker Chai Chidchob.
According to the report, the top House seat was won by Somsak, a Pheu Thai Party MP for Khon Kaen, who was the only candidate nominated for the vacancy.
Pheu Thai MP for Chaiyaphum Charoen Jankomol and Pheu Thai MP for Phayao Wisuth Chainarun were elected as first and second deputy house speakers respectively, also without any other nomination.
Meanwhile, the House Secretary-General will propose the results to the cabinet secretary-general who will then seek royal endorsement for the new house speaker and its deputies. Outgoing Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva will thereafter countersign the appointment. (TNA)
