M'SIAN OPPOSITION LEADER LETTER NOT ABOUT POWER TRANSFER, SAYS PM
KEPALA BATAS (Malaysia), Sept 16 (Bernama) -- Malaysian Prime Minister
Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said Tuesday that a letter he received from Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim on Monday was about general matters on the country's current situation and not concerning a power transfer.
"There has been no letter sent to me regarding a power transfer. He
(Anwar) sent a letter about general matters on the current situation in the
country," he told a press conference after presenting scholarships and
Aidilfitri aid to the needy here.
In KUALA LUMPUR, Anwar claimed Tuesday that he had sent a letter to the
Prime Minister requesting a meeting to discuss a peaceful transfer of power to
the Pakatan Rakyat (People's Pact) coalition.
He claimed that he had enough Members of Parliament to form the new
government.
Commenting on Anwar's claim that he had a list of 31 MPs of the ruling
Barisan Nasional (National Front) coalition who had agreed to join Pakatan
Rakyat, Abdullah said it was "just his political games" aimed at destabilising
the country.
"If he has it, let the people know, let the voters know what he has done to
the candidates they voted for," the Prime Minister said.
Abdullah said he would not be having a meeting with Anwar to discuss the
matter because "if he meets me, he will try to pull some other stunt."
"He then will claim that I agreed to this and that. It is his tactic
to continue to remain popular. I do not need to meet him," he said.
Abdullah urged everyone to focus on their own responsibilities and
manage their daily affairs and not get carried away by the political
developments taking place.
"It's better to concentrare on our jobs or businesses and that goes for
both the public and private sector," he said.
Anwar, when asked by reporters about his failure to meet Tuesday's (Sept
16) deadline to topple the BN government, said the delay was because he wanted
to discuss the power transfer with the Prime Minister first.
