Thai food industry to forge for world-class standard

BANGKOK, August 1 (TNA) - Thai food operators plan to launch a five-point proposal to the incoming government, pressing for the promotion of food safety standard in order to maintain the country’s position as a global leading food producer and exporter.
National Food Institute President Petch Chinabutr confirmed the proposal initiated by the Federation of Thai Industries and the National Food Institute as well as concerned operators on Monday, saying that the five-point measure will cover issues of the development of a linkage between industry and service sectors, infrastructure development ranging from raw materials to marketing infrastructures, the development of product standard and safety, product price control measure, and solution to trade barriers.
Meanwhile, statistics showed the value of Thai food exports exceeded 255 billion baht in the second quarter of this year, representing an increase of some 24 percent.
During the export peak season between May and June, the value exceeded 90 billion baht on a monthly basis. The value of Thai food exports throughout this year is estimated at 900 billion baht with an expected increment of 12 percent. (TNA)
