Pheu Thai Party announces House speaker nominee

BANGKOK, August 1 (TNA) - The Pheu Thai Party has nominated Somsak Kiatsuranont for the position of Thailand’s next House speaker.
The announcement was issued on Monday morning after a meeting between Pheu Thai executive board and MPs, chaired by Pheu Thai top list MP Yingluck Shinawatra.
Nominations also went to Charoen Jankomol for the first deputy house speaker position, as well as Phayao MP Wisut Chainarun for the second deputy house speaker. According the report, Yingluck asked all Pheu Thai MPs to vote for the nominees at the parliamentary session on Tuesday.
Earlier, Yingluck denied speculation that Colonel Apiwan Wiriyachai was pressured to withdraw his candidacy for the house speaker’s position. She said she regretted his departure because he was a capable and knowledgeable person, adding that Col Apiwan was more than capable of taking any role within her party. (TNA)
