“Noc-ten” rages Thai North

BANGKOK, August 1 (TNA) - Several areas in the Thai North have now been heavily flooded caused by torrential downpours over the past couple of days, influenced by the powerful Noc-ten storm, which has, however, been downgrading to a depression.
In Nan Province, three districts, including Phu Piang, Wiangsa and Na Noi, have been seriously hit by flash floods triggered by the Noc-ten storm-borne heavy downpours, resulting in more than 500 rais of local farmlands, roads, houses and other buildings having been deeply submerged, by over one metres in some areas, although local people had erected sandbag dikes to protect their property. The situation reportedly relieved this morning, but the local residents have remained on high alert and have kept a close watch on updates.
In Mae Hong Son Province, the flooding situation in earlier heavily-inundated Pai District has been returning to normal, leaving behind it, however, debris. Officials concerned are assessing damage caused by the latest floods, particularly huge business losses caused to local waterfront resorts and other firms.
Noc-ten had earlier raged several other areas in the region, including those in the Philippines, Vietnam and the Korean Peninsula, causing devastating damage with several fatalities and injuries. (TNA)
