Eastern Thai village named happiest locality

CHANTABURI, July 30 (TNA) - The Thai Ministry of Public Health's Department of Mental Health has awarded Khao Daeng Village in the eastern Chantaburi Province the happiest village of Thailand, with the award presentation set to be held on August 19.

Decha Kingnok, Deputy Mayor of the Tambon Thap Chang Municipality in Chantaburi's Soi Dao District, said that the Khao Daeng Village was picked as the country's happiest village among over 100 villages across the country--which had participated in an official contest recently launched by the Department of Mental Health.

Decha acknowledged that the Khao Daeng Village used to record 2-3 suicides per month, the highest in the Thai East and among top rankings nationwide, as many previous problems caused tension to local people. Many organizations then joined forces to solve the local problems seriously and to take good care of the villagers, who have now become happy consequently and suicides have disappeared from the eastern Thai locality.
