Thailand launches new da Vinci surgical system

BANGKOK, July 29 (TNA) - Thailand has now launched its 3rd da Vinci surgical system at King Chulalongkorn Hospital in Bangkok.

The world’s most-advanced surgical system, developed in the United States, combines superior 3D visualization along with breakthrough surgical capabilities. Until now, there are at least 108 da Vinci surgical systems in Asia, 35 of them are in South Korea, three in Thailand and the remaining in other countries.

The 108-million-baht system is used to perform general to high-precision surgical procedures in urology, gastro-intestinology and gynecology. The system is also designed to reduce blood loss, discomfort and scarring in patients and to allow surgeons to work on two operations simultaneously on two separate cases.

Thailand's Chulalongkorn Hospital will be offering the robotic surgery to 84 selected patients free of charges, beginning from this September, as part of the Kingdom's grand celebrations nationwide of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s 84th birthday anniversary on December 5, 2011. (TNA)
