Thailand, Malaysia to open new border pass
SONGKHLA, July 29 (TNA) - Thailand and neighbouring Malaysia are building another border pass located, on the Thai soil, in the southern Songkhla Province to serve growing cross-border trade, tourism and public communications.
Thai Permanent Secretary for Finance Areepong Bhuchaum said that the new border checkpoint being under construction, called Baan Makok, is less than one kilometre from the existing Sa Dao Checkpoint in Songkhla.
Areepong revealed that Malaysia is about to complete the construction of part of the new border pass on its soil and is also constructing an electronic industrial estate on a 720-rai, or 1.15-square-kilometre, plot of land to export products to Thailand; while Thailand's construction of the new border checkpoint, standing on a land plot of 19 rai or 30,400 square metres, is almost completed as well. The new Baan Makok border pass is scheduled to be officially opened in March 2012. (TNA)
