Floods hit Thai North

CHIANG RAI, July 29 (TNA) - Heavy downpours have now caused flooding in Thailand's northern Chiang Rai Province, cutting off remote villages from the outside world.

A 24-metre-long bridge was smashed by the force of the raging downhill water; while an overflowing local river has flooded affected areas, including residential communities and over 1,000 acres of rice field and other farmlands. Many irrigation dikes were even destroyed.

Local authorities said that they were assessing damage caused by the new inundations this week and dispatching relief supplies for the flood victims. (TNA)
